Work in progress render of a Gubru Talon Soldier from David Brin's science fiction novel, The Uplift War. This falls under the category of fan art. I'll sometimes create artwork based on a favorite book, game, comic etc. - partly to "keep my hand in" i.e, for practice, but mostly because it's fun. It also gives me something to display on this site, as I tend to keep most of my personal work related to specific projects off the internet till they are done.

This image is unfinished; the feathers are a temporary stand-in, I'm planning to rework them with more organic "styling", the texture on the beak is a temp, it'll be more leathery and likely include some subsurface scattering in the shader to give a slightly translucent look to it. The armor is unfinished, the device on the shoulder is a stand-in, and I'll be getting rid of or reworking the circular detail on the  breastplate.
